Electric cars have changed the way people travel in Nepal. They are quiet, smooth, cheap to run and free of exhaust fumes, which makes a real difference in Kathmandu's traffic. Among the new electric SUVs on Nepal's roads, the BYD Atto 2 has quickly become a favorite for its modern design, comfortable cabin and practical range.
At Nepal Tourist Vehicle, we have been arranging vehicles with professional drivers across Nepal since 2010. This guide explains what the BYD Atto 2 offers, which trips it suits best, how charging works on longer journeys, and how to get a quote from us.
Why Choose a BYD Atto 2 for Travel in Nepal?
The Atto 2 is a compact electric SUV that fits Nepal's city streets and paved highways well. It is a great choice when you want comfort and a modern car without paying for a large SUV.
- Silent, smooth ride with no engine noise or vibration
- Zero tailpipe emissions, a cleaner way to explore Kathmandu Valley and Pokhara
- Good ground clearance (around 200 mm) for speed bumps, potholes and uneven city roads
- Comfortable five-seat cabin with air conditioning that works quietly even in traffic jams
- Modern technology, including a large touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, wireless phone charging and a 360° camera
- Useful boot space for suitcases and day bags
- Instant acceleration, helpful for overtaking on highways and climbing hills
For couples, families, business travelers and small groups, the Atto 2 offers a premium feel at a sensible price.

Real-world range: Claimed range is measured in ideal conditions. On Nepal's hilly roads, with air conditioning and luggage, expect less. Steep climbs use more battery, while long descents recover some through regenerative braking. Our drivers plan charging stops with this in mind.
BYD Atto 2 Hire with an Experienced Driver
Every BYD Atto 2 we arrange comes with one of our professional drivers. With an electric car, a driver who knows the vehicle and the charging network matters just as much as road experience.
Our drivers:
- Know Nepal's highways and city routes from years of driving them
- Plan charging stops in advance so you never worry about the battery
- Drive efficiently to get the most range from each charge
- Check road and weather updates each morning and adjust the plan if needed
- Handle parking, checkpoints and directions for you
- Know good places for meals, tea and viewpoints, often timed with a charging stop
You simply sit back, enjoy the quiet cabin and take in the scenery.
How Much Does BYD Atto 2 Rental Cost in Nepal?
The price depends on your route and how long you need the car. The main factors are:
- Number of days you need the vehicle
- Route and destination
- Total distance to be covered
- Travel season (spring and autumn are busiest)
- One-way or return trip, and whether the car waits for you
- Driver's food and accommodation on overnight trips
- Charging costs on long trips (we'll state clearly whether they're included)
Running an electric car costs less than a petrol or diesel vehicle, so the Atto 2 is often good value on city tours and medium-distance trips. We give clear, itemized quotes with no hidden charges. For trips of a week or more, ask about multi-day and monthly rates.
What to Include When You Ask for a Quote
- Pickup date and time
- Pickup location (hotel, airport or other)
- Return or drop-off date
- Number of passengers and amount of luggage
- Your planned route and overnight stops
- Any special needs, such as a child seat
For example, "BYD Atto 2 for 4 days, Kathmandu – Pokhara – Kathmandu, 3 people with 3 suitcases, starting 10 November" lets us price your trip accurately in one reply.
Best Trips for a BYD Atto 2 in Nepal
Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing
The Atto 2 is ideal for touring Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan. Visit Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swayambhunath, Durbar Squares and Nagarkot in a quiet, air-conditioned car that is easy to park in narrow streets. A full day of valley sightseeing is well within a single charge.
Airport and Hotel Transfers
Arrive in comfort with a pickup from Tribhuvan International Airport to your hotel in Thamel, Lazimpat, Boudha or anywhere in the valley. It's also a good option for business meetings and events around Kathmandu.
Kathmandu to Pokhara
The Prithvi Highway is fully paved, and the 200 km drive is within the Atto 2's range on paper. In practice, traffic, climbs and air conditioning reduce the range, so our drivers usually plan a short top-up at a charging station along the way. Charging can be combined with a meal or tea break. See our Kathmandu to Pokhara road guide for road conditions and stops.
Pokhara Local Tours
Explore Lakeside, Sarangkot, Davis Falls, the World Peace Pagoda, Begnas Lake and nearby viewpoints. Short distances make Pokhara perfect for an electric car.
Chitwan and Lumbini
The roads to Sauraha (Chitwan) and Lumbini are paved and mostly flat once you leave the hills, which suits an EV well. A Kathmandu – Chitwan – Lumbini – Pokhara – Kathmandu loop works nicely with planned charging stops in the main towns.
Day Trips from Kathmandu
Dhulikhel, Namobuddha, Chandragiri, Kakani, Daman and Bandipur (from Pokhara or on the way) are all good outings in an Atto 2.
Good to know: The Atto 2 is built for paved roads. It is not suitable for Mustang, Muktinath, rough trailhead roads or unpaved mountain tracks, where charging is limited and road conditions demand a 4WD. For those trips, we recommend a Land Cruiser or a 4WD jeep.
Charging on Long Trips
Nepal's EV charging network has grown quickly, with fast chargers in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan, Butwal and along main highways. Still, a few things are worth knowing:
- We plan charging in advance based on your route and overnight stops
- Fast charging takes about 25–40 minutes for a useful top-up, often while you eat or rest
- Overnight charging at hotels with chargers is arranged where available
- Power cuts or busy stations can cause short delays, so keep a little flexibility in your schedule
If your route goes beyond reliable charging coverage, we'll tell you honestly and suggest a better vehicle.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I rent a BYD Atto 2 in Nepal?
Yes. Nepal Tourist Vehicle provides the BYD Atto 2 electric SUV with a professional driver for city tours, transfers and road trips on paved routes. Book early for spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November).
How much does BYD Atto 2 rental cost in Nepal?
The price depends on the number of days, route, distance and season. Send us your itinerary and we'll reply with a clear, itemized quote.
Does the BYD Atto 2 come with a driver?
Yes. All our Atto 2 bookings include an experienced driver who knows the car, the roads and the charging stations.
Can the BYD Atto 2 go from Kathmandu to Pokhara?
Yes. The route is fully paved and well served by charging stations. Our driver will usually plan one short charging stop on the way, which can be combined with a meal break.
How far can the BYD Atto 2 go on one charge?
The claimed range is about 345 km. On Nepal's hilly roads with air conditioning and luggage, real-world range is lower, so we plan charging stops for longer trips.
How long does it take to charge?
At a DC fast charger, about 25 minutes from 20% to 80%. On a standard AC charger, a full charge takes several hours and is usually done overnight.
How many people and bags fit in the Atto 2?
It seats five, but four adults is more comfortable for long journeys. The boot takes around 2–3 medium suitcases plus small bags. For larger groups or heavy luggage, ask us about an SUV or van.
Can I take the BYD Atto 2 to Mustang or a trekking trailhead?
We don't recommend it. Those roads are rough and unpaved, and charging is limited. A Land Cruiser or 4WD jeep is the right choice for those routes.
Can I pick up the Atto 2 from Kathmandu airport?
Yes. We can pick you up from Tribhuvan International Airport or your hotel anywhere in Kathmandu Valley.
